Topic:  DR Planning Life Cycle:  Gaining Management Approval to Design and Implement

Protecting the availability and reliability of IT systems is critical in today's business environment as so many organizations have placed higher demands and expectations from their IT systems. Disaster Recovery Planning begins with an endorsement or approval from management, and therefore it is essential to provide solid business justification for any DR initiative.  We will review the entire DR Planning Life Cycle starting with this critical step of how to gain management approval.  We will then review best practices for design and implementation of a DR Plan that is well integrated with the organization's requirements and goals.

Scott Cave is a Principal with Atlantic Business Continuity Services in Summerville, SC. For the past 13 years he has developed, tested, and managed business continuity and disaster recovery plans, and in 2006 achieved the Certified Business Continuity Professional designation from the Disaster Recovery Institute International. As a Principal with Atlantic Business Continuity Services, he has consulted with a variety of local businesses, municipalities, and organizations to develop and maintain their business continuity and disaster recovery plans. Mr. Cave has served on the Charleston Metro Chamber’s Business Continuity Planning Council since its inception in 2006, and as Chairman from 2008 – 2010. He also has worked with the Community and Regional Resilience Institute (CARRI) effort in Charleston, serving as Co-Chairman of that group’s Recovery Communications Network committee. Mr. Cave is a leading local speaker on business continuity and disaster recovery topics, presenting regularly at regional seminars, workshops, and business associations.
