Topic: STEM - Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics
Speaker: Dean Bill Landry of Trident Technical College
Bill joined Trident in 1978 as an instructor of biological sciences and served as coordinator of Life Sciences for several years. He has also served eleven years as department head of Biological/Natural Sciences, one year as Interim Dean of Health Sciences, one year as Associate Dean of Sciences, and is currently serving his fourteenth year as Dean of Science & Mathematics. He holds a B.A. in Biological Sciences from the University of New Hampshire and a M.S. in Biological Sciences from Michigan Technological University. Prior to Trident, Bill held a one-year appointment as an instructor of microbiology at Michigan Technological University in the Upper Peninsula.
Bill teaches microbiology at Trident and has also taught general biology, anatomy & physiology, pathology and, a long time ago, a course in BASIC on Radio Shack TRS-80’s. He received the SCTEA nomination from Trident Technical College for Educator of the Year in 1993-94 and as Administrator of the Year in 2003-04. Bill has served in the past on several Southern Association reaccreditation visits to other colleges.
Bill’s passions include promoting communication across disciplines and integrating technology in teaching, particular in science and mathematics. He is a past president, vice president of education, and club secretary of the Greenwave Gabbers (local Summerville) Toastmasters’ club and co-sponsored the establishment of a new faculty/staff Toastmasters’ Club at Trident. He is a standing member of the Trident Graduation Committee, and conducts graduation rehearsal with the students each Spring. He’s also a member of The Summerville Family Y and an avid spin cycler.
