Digital Services offered by St. Louis Public Library
presented by Rob Tygett and Andrea Johnson
Our field is constantly changing. Training is essential to keep up with those changes. We are constantly traveling--either for business or pleasure--sometimes to foreign countries. The Saint Louis Public Library offers a variety of digital technologies--including free online learning via Gale Courses and Mango which teaches foreign languages. Geared to our level, this training will feature magazine downloads, e-books, movies, and even free music downloads.
If you live or work in Saint Louis City, you can obtain a library card which gives you access to all these resources. Don't live in Saint Louis City? Simply knowing about what is available will enable you to ask the right questions and find out what your local library has to offer! Rob Tygett and Andrea Johnson will comprehensively discuss how digital technologies are redefining the services offered to the patrons of St. Louis Public Library. Attendees will learn how the Library is offering downloadable media, free online learning, and developing the area’s first free digital maker space.
began his career at St. Louis Public Library in early 2004. Before pursuing librarianship, he attended Webster University where he obtained a Bachelor’s in Media Communications. In 2007 Rob combined his media background with his experience in libraries take on the position of Film Librarian for SLPL. It was during his tenure in this position that he completed his Master’s in Library Science from the University of Missouri.
In March of 2013 Rob was promoted to the position of Manager of Digital Library Services. The core focus of his work includes Downloadables products (eBooks, eAudiobooks, etc.), development of the Library’s Digital Maker Space (Creative Experience), management of technology assistants, and efforts to publish the Library’s digitization projects. The nature of his work is exciting; the dynamic world of technology continually presents new possibilities and the opportunity to solve the challenges that come with them.
