Saturday 9:30 am to 11 am: Blain Barton, Senior IT Pro Evangelist – Microsoft Technical Workshop
Raised in Spokane Washington, Blain Barton has been with Microsoft for 20 years and has held many diverse positions. His career started in 1988 as Team Leader in Manufacturing and Distribution, progressing to PSS Team Manager for Visual Basic Product Support 1990, Product Development Consultant for Microsoft Word Division in 1993 then left Microsoft for 5 years working for a Certified Training Education Center as a Microsoft Certified Training for NT 4.0. Blain then resumed his service with Microsoft in 1999 within the OEM Systems Engineering Division and currently serving as a Senior Technical Evangelist. Blain has organized and delivered a wide array of technical events and has presented over 1000 live events and has received six “top-presenter” speaking awards. He has traveled around the world delivering OEM training sessions on pre-installing Microsoft Windows on new PC’s. Blain has just released his first book, “Setting up your business in the cloud – Microsoft Public Cloud Services” in 2015. He attended Washington State University graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in English/Business and Minor in Computer Science. After college, Blain taught snow skiing on a professional level in the Cascade Mountains before starting his career with Microsoft. As a hobby, Blain runs a 10-acre farm consisting of Sylvestris Silver Date palm trees within his nursery operation in Homosassa Florida. Blain currently resides in Tampa Florida.
Sunday 1 to 4 pm: Barbara Viola – President of the Association of Information Technology Professionals
Barbara Viola is the President and CEO of Viotech Solutions Inc., an Information Technology Consulting and Staffing Company headquartered in Long Island, N.Y. She is responsible for the overall management of a firm that specializes in project-oriented consulting to Fortune 500 companies, as well as alternative staffing and outsourcing in the Information Technology Field. Viotech Solutions is a woman-owned business certified in NYC and New York State.
Barbara is the AITP 2015 AITP national President, and has been an AITP member since 1997. She previously served as Eastern Region Director, Secretary and Executive Vice President on the national AITP board. On a local level, she is also the President of the Long Island, New York Chapter and helped grow the chapter from 35 members to over 200. Additionally, she was a founding member of the Help Desk Institute, Long Island Chapter, Past President of the Academy of Information Technology, Industry Advisory Board at Northport High School, and is currently on the IT Advisory Boards of Adelphi and Hofstra Universities. She is also involved in the NY State Stem Hub initiative representing IT, and is also a member of the Global IT2017 ACM Task Group on Information Technology revising global standards for IT curriculum for the 2020’s and beyond.
With over 25 years in the industry, Barbara is a requested speaker at both local and national meetings, and has been featured on CNBC, as well as on ABC TV. Barbara has been a frequent guest of the popular “Job Line" New York TV show, and on "Radio Job Line". She often speaks at colleges and universities to student groups and enjoys giving career advice to those entering the industry. Barbara is often quoted in local and national newspapers on Technology Topics. She received the “Women –Owned Business of the Year” Award through the Long Island Association in 2006, which was presented by Hillary Clinton. Barbara holds an MBA in Management and Marketing from Adelphi University, and a BA from SUNY Buffalo. She is married, lives on Long Island, New York with her husband Michael, and has two daughters.
