The Association of Information Technology (AITP) – Charlotte Chapter will hold its Maymeeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2013.
The topic of the program is "Windows 8 Application Development Workshop".
The May AITP Charlotte Chapter meeting will be a joint meeting with our friends at Carolina IT Pros (CITPG). Microsoft Evangelists will be on hand to lead the workshop and create a fun ‘hands on’ experience for attendees. In addition, you could possibly win $100 for each qualifying app that is published to the Windows Store, up to $1000. Here are more details for this event: This is a beginner level workshop that will cover the basics of game design, programming and publication (you do not need any previous experience in application development). To get started, you will need to bring a laptop to the meeting running Windows 7 or Windows 8. You can develop in Windows 7 but will need Windows 8 to publish the app. For Windows 8, you will need to 1)download Construct 2 (FREE) at https://www.scirra.com/construct2/releases/r126 2)download Visual Studio Express for Windows 8 (FREE) at http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/eng/downloads#d-2012-expresso , and 3)download starter kit at https://github.com/ChrisBowen/Construct-2/ Next, you will need to create a developer account. This can be done by going to the following location: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/jj193592.aspx The cost for this account is a one-time fee of $49. This money can easily be recouped by participating in the ‘Keep the Cash’ campaign at https://build.windowsstore.com/keepthecash#fbid=fnnsvdNBZxU Microsoft Tech Affiliates is sponsoring a similar contest found at http://www.mstechaffiliate.com/members/larrybumgardner Official rules for these contests can be found at http://build.windowsstore.com/keepthecash/termsandconditions and http://www.mstechaffiliate.com/docs/default-document-library/tap-sweepstakes-rules.pdf We think this will be an EXCITING event in which you will have a chance to learn new skills and possibly make some cash.
