BYOC: Bring Your Own Computer
**Updated February 12, 2006 with local PC Rental
options** |
All computers (both desktop and laptop computers are allowed) must have
Windows XP, Windows XP Professional, Windows 2000, or Windows 2003
installed. Your computer should be fully patched with all current operating
system and application software updates. It should also have current
antivirus software installed to help protect against the possibility of
infection and/or corruption that could result in a loss of your competition
time, results, or both.
All computers must have a working 10/100 Ethernet wired network adapter. You
will also need to have Microsoft Windows Networking and TCP/IP both
installed. The TCP/IP connection properties should be set to use DHCP so
that the computer can obtain its network address automatically. Each team is
responsible for ensuring that their computer can connect to the onsite
network properly. A testing area will be available for verification.
As you compete in a particular contest, you will be provided with a private,
secure folder on the local network where you will submit your work. At the
end of a competition event, make sure you have copied your final submission
to this folder. Ensure that filenames do not contain any identifying
indications (names, school names, etc.)
Any form of outside communication via a wired or wireless device of any kind
may not be activated during competition. Any activation will result in
immediate disqualification. This includes, but is not limited to, instant
messengers, IRC chat, forums, shoutboxes, etc.
Some contests may allow or require that printed materials be submitted at
the end of the contest period. See the rules on the official AITP National
Collegiate Conference website (http://www.aitp.org/ncc) to determine whether
or not your contest will require printed output.
If printing is required for a particular contest, the Contest Coordinator
may make network-based printers available at the end of the contest period.
In order to be able to use those printers, your computer will need to have a
Category 5 Ethernet cable with RJ45 connectors and a 10/100 Ethernet
adapter. You will also need to have Microsoft Windows Networking and TCP/IP
both installed. The TCP/IP connection properties should be set to use DHCP
so that the computer can obtain its network address automatically.
Your computer must contain the approved application development tool(s) in
the version(s) specified on the official AITP National Collegiate Conference
website http://www.aitp.org/ncc Additionally, there will be a pre-contest PC
check-up lab station staffed with conference volunteers to help make sure
that your software, settings and devices are in order for the respective
contests events that you are entering. *
All teams are responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and integrity
of their computer equipment. AITP does not assume responsibility for any
loss or damage.
There will "not" be any loaner systems or on-site PC lab systems available
for use for the contests denoted as "BYOC" which basically means - if you do
not bring, borrow or rent a notebook PC for the contests that you want to
enter, then you will not be able to compete.
Only one (1) PC workstation (consisting of one monitor, one CPU, one
keyboard, and one mouse OR one laptop, one external keyboard, and one mouse)
will be allowed per team.
