The Foundation for Information Technology Education (FITE) is pleased to announce that the Betty Stevens-Frecknall Scholarship committee selected the recipients for 2012-2013 academic year.
Betty Stevens-Frecknall left a portion of her estate to the Foundation to set up a scholarship fund targeted at assisting deserving men and women pursuing an education in the field of information technology. Betty, a former President of the Washington D.C. Chapter in 1972, served several years as that Chapter's Association Director (now Chapter Liaison) and also was President of the Mid-Atlantic Region. She was always a very strong advocate for AITP and the opportunities it provides to members. She particularly wanted to be able to continue supporting and encouraging personal and professional growth and enable access to career advancement.
The endowment created a national scholarship that is awarded annually to support university students who are seeking an education in an accredited degree program related to information technology. Candidates are evaluated on demonstrated scholastic achievement, leadership, financial need and quality of the application. The selection process is administered by the Foundation Regents.
The following are the winners of the Betty Stevens-Frecknall Scholarship for the 2012-2013 academic year:
Alex Leonhard, Quinnipiac University, Hamden, CT
William Parks, Oklahoma Panhandle State University, Goodwell, OK
Congratulations to Alex and William for their achievements!
When they learned of their selection, Alex and William told the Foundation:
"I cannot express how thankful and honored I am to be selected as one of the recipients of the Betty Stevens-Frecknall Scholarship. I am a Junior studying Computer Information Systems at Quinnipiac University, and this scholarship will help improve my education in so many ways. With this scholarship, I will now be able to enroll in a two week University course that takes place in Italy next semester. I would not be able to afford such an amazing educational experience without the money provided by FITE.
Thank you for presenting me with such an opportunity. I would also like to thank AITP for advertising the scholarship to its members. I am truly appreciative of the honor and will continue to strive towards excellence and demonstrate leadership in the same manner that has qualified me for this award.” Alex Leonhard"I'm pleased to accept the Betty Stevens-Frecknall Scholarship. For the past two years I have been relying primarily on scholarships and loans to finance my college education. The receipt of this award serves to make a gigantic difference in relieving my growing loan debt. I'm extremely proud to be a part of an association such as AITP that not only makes scholarship opportunities such as this readily available to its student members, but also serves as an outlet for healthy competition and perhaps most importantly personal networking. I look forward to being an active member in AITP in the next few years leading to my graduation. This organization has done so much for me already and that is why I humbly accept this very prestigious scholarship.” William Parks
The Foundation will soon be accepting applications for the 2013-2014 scholarships. An article will be published in Information Executive when applications are open.
