In August 2012, Héctor Gutiérrez contacted AITP regarding a possible partnership between his organization, Asociación Sonorense de Profesionistas en Tecnologías de Información A.C. (ASPTICS) and ours. Over the past several months, Chuck Brown, Region 1 President, explained to ASPTIC board members, Hector Gutierrez and Manuel Bernal, AITP's organizational structure and agreed with their initial assessment that there might be some kind of partnership between the organizations.

Initially, an agreement was reached to share information on local chapter events in Region 1 and to forward ASPTIC event information to the AITP chapters. This is the starting point and any more formal arrangements (e.g. becoming an AITP partner, like SIM, or becoming an AITP Region or Chapter) could be revisited at some future date. As the discussions progressed, this information was shared with Association President, Norbert Kubilus, Region 3 President, David Stovall, Region 1 chapters, and the Region Presidents' Council.

ASPTICS, A.C. is "a regional chapter” in operations. The group is very active and will shortly publish the next edition of its professional magazine. To highlight their desire to partner with AITP, they asked that we contribute an AITP feature article, which Norbert Kubilus is writing. The ASPTICS, A. C. mission and objective closely parallel those of AITP:

Mission

  1. To strengthen the community of professionals in information and communication technologies in their human and professional development within the highest ethical standards, to the benefit of society, seeking to promote the advancement of the information and telecommunication technologies, through cooperation, the creation of value and the search for maximum human and professional development of all members of the Organization, for the benefit of society.

  2. Promote and encourage collegial union of professionals in information technologies and communications of Sonora, especially bringing together all the professionals who have legally issued professional degree and who have professional identity card.

So where is this all taking place? Mostly in the virtual environment, as Sonora is about the same distance south of Tucson as Phoenix is north of there. If you have a few minutes, I encourage you to check them out:
