On April 16, 2015, the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) Twin City Chapter in Bloomington/Normal, IL honored an Illinois State University student for superior academic and extracurricular involvement.
The chapter is proud to announce the recipient of the $500 Student Award. The award is given out annually to a student chapter AITP member that has at least 60 credit hours and is in an IT related field. Students must portray leadership skills, campus involvement, and strong academics.
The recipient this year is Elise Byers of Illinois State University (ISU). Elise is the President of the ISU Student AITP Club and also serves on the officers committee to help coordinate meetings and events for both the AITP and Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) clubs.
Elise has received her Associates in Data Processing and is currently working on her Bachelor of Science in Information Systems with a Minor in Business Administration. In 2014 she competed in the AITP National Collegiate Conference in Atlanta, GA. After experiencing the NCC first-hand, she has taken it upon herself to give presentations to classes to help recruit new members and to encourage other students to compete in this year’s NCC in Omaha, NE. She organized the efforts to take a team of five students to the NCC with the help of the Illinois State University faculty sponsor Dr. David Sikolia. At NCC she also won a National AITP Scholarship. Elise plans to work as an intern this summer and will be graduating in December 2015. After graduating, she is eager to start a new career as a Systems Development/Analyst.
