Eric Hungate Appointed to AITP Profession Advisory Council

Congratulations to Eric Hungate, President of the Austin AITP Chapter for his appointment to the AITP Profession Advisory Council representing AITP's Southern District.

Eric is Chief Information Officer (CIO) of The Texas Association of School Boards. Previously Eric accumulated over 25 years of experience in IT management and consulting including positions at Ernst & Young, the Robert Mondavi Winery, Fireman's Fund Insurance, Union Oil, and Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. He has taught Strategic Analysis at the University of Texas, McCombs Graduate School of Business, and has provided project management consulting for large scale ERP software litigation.

Eric earned his undergraduate degree in business management at the University of San Francisco and an MBA at St. Mary's College of California. He carries the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and the Information Systems Audit and Control Association's (ISACA) Certification in the Governance of Enterprise IT.

Eric was voted Austin's 2009 IT Executive of the Year - Public Sector, by the Austin Chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) and more recently voted into the Computerworld Premier 100 IT Leaders for 2010.

AITP Profession Advisory Council (APA Council)
The APA Council was formed in 2009 to provide guidance to the AITP President and Board of Directors regarding how the association can best support the professional growth of its members and advance the technology business profession as a whole.

This guidance includes:
  • providing recommendations on the skill sets needed for IT professionals to advance their careers
  • enhancing and promoting a greater awareness of the demand for an integrated business and technology skill set
  • providing perspective on evolution of the IT business professional role
  • other matters requested by the association Board of Directors.
The desired outcomes of the Council's efforts are improved recognition of AITP's brand, increased professional and student membership, and a stronger portfolio of member programs and services.
