Tuesday, October 19th, 2010, the Southwest Missouri Chapter of the Association of IT Professionals hosted their first ever technology showcase and expo. 8 industry leaders presented technology education tracks for our regional IT professionals. Microsoft, HP, IBM, Cisco Systems, Brocade, Verizon Wireless, Windstream and EMC each had a breakout room where they were presenting topics ranging from virtualization to storage and security solutions. 350 invitations were sent to area IT professionals with a registration of 250+ guests.
We also offered an expo in the multi-purpose room that housed local vendors and national vendors. Since this was the first event of its kind for Southwest Missouri we were unsure of its success but considering the participation and feedback from vendors and participants we are already in the works for planning Tech IT Out 2011.
Our goal was not to make this a money making event for our chapter this year but rather to see what kind of response we would get by hosting this event. This year we will make changes to the lineup for presenters offering a keynote speaker and 3-4 educational tracks. We will also be beefing up the booth renter population and offering more regional players an opportunity to display their products and services. Last year we had 22 booth renters and this year we hope to increase that number to twice that amount.
We invite our regional AITP members and national AITP members to be a part of this exciting event. This year's event will take the place of our September monthly meeting. The date is Tuesday, September 20th. If you have questions about the event please contact President Robin Byler at firstname.lastname@example.org or 417-343-0225. We are always looking for ways to increase membership. After the 2010 event we had a staggering 17 new members join in the month of November alone!
