Jerome W. Geckle, CDP, a pioneer in the rise of Information Systems, passed away on October 22, 2010, at age 81. Jerry rose from the machine operations of unit record equipment in 1955, to head the Data Processing Division, then to become Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Peterson, Howell and Heather (PHH Corporation), one of the Fortune 500 companies in Baltimore, Maryland. Jerry retired in 1989.

Jerry was an active member of the Baltimore Chapter, Data Processing Management Association (DPMA), formerly the National Machine Accounts Association, renamed as the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) in 1996.

In 1982 Jerry was selected nationally for the DPMA "Distinguished Information Sciences Award." He served to assist Stevenson University (formerly Villa Julie College) with initiation of their academic program in information technology for many years. Jerry was major force in developing the AITP / DPMA model curriculum that served as the basis for accreditation in Information Systems at numerous colleges and universities.

Putting your family and community first and "Getting the job done" were his maxims in his rise from programmer to CEO.
