It is difficult to believe that a year ago I took office as your Association President. As I reflect back on the past 11 months I am proud of all that we as a team of volunteers have accomplished. In my final President's Message I wanted to thank each and every one of you for contributing your time and talent to AITP. A special thanks to those Association Board members whose board terms will be ending on December 31st: Deborah Lovell, Association Past President; Mike Welch, Association Secretary; Darlene Gerber, Association Treasurer; and Christine Leja, Association Director Central District. It is my honor and pleasure to serve you as President of AITP throughout 2010!
As we approach year end I have a few highlights to share with you, both recent and upcoming:
Our annual national conference, the Member Summit, will be held March 25-26, 2011 at the Hilton in sunny Orlando. Yes, you heard me correctly. After an impressive showing this past January in Chicago we heard your feedback and have moved the event to a warmer climate. Plan to come for the education and stay for a little rest and relaxation. This 2011 event has an impressive line-up of CIO speakers and will include sessions on topics such as social media, cloud computing, green IT, security and personal coaching style.
The 29th annual ISECON conference was held recently with co-event partner CONISAR in Nashville, TN. This magnificent event had over 175 including participants from 4 different countries. Key highlights of the conference included: Awarding of the 2010 Educator of the Year to Ken Kendall; installation of three additional AITP/EDSIG Fellows - Albert Harris, Teresa Hickerson and Paul Leidig; and an overview of AITP initiatives by AITP President Beth Pirrie. Click here for that overview.
In addition a new EDSIG Board was elected; Alan Peslak (Penn State) will be the president in 2011 with Wendy Ceccucci (Quinnipiac University) the Vice President. The conference featured over 100 sessions with a focus on model curriculum and assessment. The 2011 ISECON/CONISAR Conference will be held in Wilmington, NC during the first weekend of November.
December is our single biggest month for membership renewals. I urge you to consider renewing for multiple years to save up to 30% off your national dues. You may renew today for 2, 3 or 5 years. Complete details on this membership option can be found at this newsletter article.
As we close out 2010, please join me in congratulating to our 2009 Region Outstanding Chapters: San Diego, Puget Sound, Dallas, Southwest Missouri, Twin City, Atlanta, Long Island and Pittsburgh.
I wish you and your families a happy and safe holiday season.
