An AITP meeting on a Paddlewheel boat, cruising along the South Shore of Long Island, New York? Sometimes, adding creativity to your meeting location can add excitement, and act as a membership incentive for your Chapter.
On June 18, 2010 the Long Island Chapter's June monthly meeting on the topic of "Wireless Technologies" was made even more special by using the Lauren Kristy paddlewheel as our location. We held our hour meeting on board the boat, and then spent the next 2 hours cruising along the beautiful south shore of Long Island. It turned out to be a great way to welcome in summer with our colleagues in the industry.
How did we handle all details and make this trip happen? As we do with most of our meetings, we left the planning to our active Program Committee and they arranged speakers, food, arranged for the boat and helped design the email flyers announcing the trip.
Do our members look forward to this yearly event? Yes - and we use it as a tool to increase membership and create a professional networking event for our members. What can your Chapter do in your area to add interest and creativity to your meetings?
