Follow up to the NCC: A Chapter President Perspective

WOW! What an event. As the president of the Eastern Illinois Chapter, and one of six co-hosting schools, I had an experience of a lifetime at the National Collegiate Conference (NCC) in St. Louis, MO. For 4 days, I was able to meet new people, make new friends, learn about new technologies, challenge myself through IT competitions, represent my University, and finally, represent our Student Chapter at Eastern Illinois University (EIU).
This year, EIU was able to take 12 student members, as well as a Faculty Advisor to NCC. We acted as student chapter co-hosts and helped run the event! Anywhere help was needed, our chapter was on it! If we weren't helping with the event, we were competing in competitions or attending break-out sessions. Being a co-host gave some exclusive access to "backstage" happenings, as well as GREAT exposure for your university.
I can safely say that NCC was a capstone event to my senior year of college. I can't believe I opted out of NCC last year! Learn from my mistakes, go every year you can! As a student member, you have a great opportunity to win cash prizes at NCC, you have the opportunity to network with vendors, and you have the opportunity to represent yourself and your school!
Since I am a senior, I unfortunately won't be able to attend NCC again as a student. However, I can attend and/or volunteer as a Professional Member! Did you know that AITP has an Interim Member program? In this program, you can join AITP at a significantly reduced rate after graduation for 3 years! This is a great opportunity to continue to build your networks and develop professionally. Click here.
AITP has simply given me more opportunities than I could have dreamed of as a non-member. Remember, "No matter how sophisticated technology is, it still takes people."
