On March 25th - 28th, the AITP St Louis Chapter did an outstanding job hosting the 15th Annual AITP National Collegiate Conference (NCC). This is the premier student event catering to college and technical school students preparing for business careers focused on Information Technology. At the 2010 NCC, AITP student members were able to participate in numerous contests, interview with prospective employers, attend industry career workshops and network with nearly 700 other AITP members. Many awards were presented including some in the form of cash. In addition to two $2,500 scholarships awarded on behalf of Diamond Sponsor Robert Half Technology, the Foundation for Information Technology Education (FITE) awarded three scholarships.

I personally attended the NCC in St. Louis and find this to be one of the most energizing events I attend each year. To watch the students participate in the variety of classes and contests offered reasons to be optimistic about the future of the IT industry. In addition to the actual events of the NCC, I was thankful to be invited to join Region 5 and the St. Louis Chapter to participate in their face-to-face meetings. It is opportunities like these that allow us to discuss common themes throughout AITP and engineer ideas on how to increase membership in the coming months and years.

Lastly, there are two very important announcements I want to make on behalf of the Association. First, please be aware that the Spring Student Member promotion ended on March 31st. Soon-to-graduate Student Members have the opportunity to sign up now as a first year Interim member for $35.

Your student membership will continue until your anniversary and on the expiration date you will transition to professional membership as an Interim Member. As a first year Interim Member you will need to select a chapter with which to affiliate and pay their chapter dues. If you are a Chapter or Region leader, I encourage you to pass this information along to your student chapters.

Secondly, I wanted to advise our membership that 20 chapters applied to participate in the voluntary Heart of a Champion program. Four chapters were selected. The Heart of a Champion program is a pilot program which offers participating chapters an instructor-led program designed for developing soft skills necessary in today's challenging business environment.

As always, please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions at
