With the short month of February upon us, it's important to reflect on the outstanding month we experienced in January. As many of you know, we held the 2nd annual AITP Member Summit in Chicago, January 22nd and 23rd. With two simultaneous tracks on both IT and Chapter Resources, the feedback from our attendees has been outstanding. AITP leaders from around the country were able to meet and share best practices on how to grow their local chapters. The event culminated into the AITP Annual Meeting of the Members where we reported on the 2009 accomplishments for AITP, as well as gave those in attendance an introduction into our 2010 Strategic Plan. With the weather cooperating beautifully, I can honestly say that we had a wonderful weekend and look forward to the next eleven months to guiding AITP growth.
During the AITP Member Summit, we were thankful to offer a number of awards recognizing our Chapters. I was most pleased to award the Association Outstanding Chapter Award (AOCA) to the Pittsburgh Chapter, represented by Stan Hoffman and Harvey Schoenman. The Pittsburgh Chapter had an outstanding year in 2008 and has served an important role in the mentoring of several student and professional chapters in their area. One in particular, the Johnstown Chapter, has recently been infused with a local enterprise member and as a result has doubled attendance at their monthly chapter meeting. Congratulations to both Pittsburgh and Johnstown and we look forward to hearing many more success stories in the future. During our Awards Gala it was my honor to present our 2009 Distinguished Information Sciences Award (DISA) to James (Jim) Goodnight, PhD, CEO of SAS.
I urge all members to be on the lookout for several important announcements. Operations Service Area Head, Chris Leja will offer the opportunity to volunteer for a number of our volunteer driven committees. There will be instructions as to how to volunteer and details on the available committees. Additionally, there is a survey from our Membership Service Area that asks all current AITP members about the value of our Association. It is important as we continue to re-energize and re-engineer the face of AITP.
Finally, I would like to remind you that monthly Association Meeting Minutes and Service Area Reports are available at AITP Reports page (login and hover over "Members Only" in the left rail) of www.aitp.org.
