AITP has a unique opportunity to forge a new and dynamic alliance between the business and information technology executive leadership and the IT professional community.
In today's IT profession, business demands an integrated skill set for current and future IT professionals: technical, business and soft skills. To differentiate our association and provide value to the new IT business profession, AITP understands it must deliver programs and continuing education focused on enhancing our IT professional's skill sets to prepare them for career advancement.
To take advantage of this opportunity, we established the AITP Profession Advisory Council (APAC) which is comprised of AITP members who hold senior IT executive positions and/or are recognized as business technology professionalism thought leaders in academia, corporations, industry analysts, or non-profit organizations.
The Council is crucial to the success of setting skill set standards for the IT business professional as we seek to educate and gain acceptance of this new role in the industry. The Council's combined expertise and vision is critical to creating the right self-development training programs, education platforms, and career advancement services that will be offered by AITP to the IT business profession.
The Council was established in late summer 2009 and held its first in person meeting in Dallas on October 23 at the University of Texas - Dallas campus and have since held several teleconferences. The Council will meet face to face again at a meeting scheduled for April 18 in Orlando to further their work on defining the professionalism framework of an IT business professional and identifying the education needs of IT professionals to advance or path their careers.
What is the purpose of APAC?
The primary purpose of the APAC is to provide guidance to the AITP President and Board of Directors regarding the advancement of the technology business profession and support AITP in achieving its goals and objectives to offer the right education programs that protect and path the careers of the IT business professional.
Guidance may include providing recommendations on the skill sets required for professionals to advance their careers, enhancing and promoting a greater awareness of the demand for an integrated business and technology skill set, and providing advice on the future roles of an IT business professional or other matters felt to be generally relevant to the advancement of the IT business profession.
The desired result of this Council's efforts will be AITP receiving external validation of the IT business profession and enabling it to launch new programs and services, improve services to the current membership, retain and expand its market share.
Who serves on APAC?
The Council consists of up to twelve (12) AITP members representing a broad and geographically diverse spectrum of the IT business community. APAC is organized fundamentally by districts--Eastern, Central, Southern and Western- and "at large" representatives from academia and industry affiliates. The AITP President sits on the Council as ex officio.
