Mr. Brandon Tenorio, a graduating senior from Columbine High School, is honored by the Mile High Chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) as the 2009 recipient of the Dave Sanders Columbine IT Scholarship at the chapter's monthly dinner meeting. Brandon will use the $600 scholarship for tuition to attend the University of Denver in the fall where he intends to study Computer science.

In his classes at Columbine, Brandon has received two outstanding student achievement awards in Math and Chemistry. He has a passion for working with information technology: from 2004 to 2006 he worked at the Binning Family Foundation helping kids learn to use computers and video editing software. During these years Brandon also attended one week sessions at the Colorado School of Mines where he participated in team building projects. He currently works part time at the Bureau of Reclamation in the IT department: setting up and imaging computers for the bureau's users. In addition he troubleshoots hardware and software problems.

Brandon says that his personal goal is to work as a software engineer where he can be involved in the development of new and innovative software products.

Scholarship Committee Chair, Larry Krupicka, says that Brandon was highly recommended by his manager at the Bureau of Reclamation, Mr. Paul Braunschweig who noted "Brandon is very personable and is well-liked by our customers and his coworkers. Brandon completes all tasks assigned to him on time and efficiently. He is an enterprising and enthusiastic young man who is a valuable asset to whatever endeavor he engages in."

This scholarship was funded to honor the memory of Dave Sanders, who was a computer lab and business instructor at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado until April 20, 1999 when he lost his life helping students to safety during the Columbine shootings.

AITP is a national organization that provides quality IT related education, information on relevant IT issues and forums for networking with experienced peers and other IT professionals.
