Message from the President

To achieve our goals, we must be committed to continuously gather and analyze data to make knowledge based decisions; maintain a culture of continuous conversation throughout the entire organization; foster effective communication; and very importantly, measure results!

We have just traveled through our first quarter of our new AITP journey and have some results that I want to share with each of you. As you know, the benefits of measuring our performance will help us stay aligned and focused, and enable us to achieve our strategic goals.

During this first quarter, the Strategic Plan Task Forces delivered tactical plans detailing goals and projected timelines. Click here for the Strategic Plan which includes these tactical plans.

The Association Board approved the no-cost projects for each of the four strategic paths: membership, business development, products and services, and operations. The Board also directed the Task Forces to submit the list of projects with cost to the respective Service Area leaders to engage their committees to develop action plans. These action plans will be submitted to the board for consideration. With the economic downturn, the Board is reviewing the financials each month and evaluating the return on investment for any and all proposed cost projects. No action plans (projects) with costs will be implemented without Board approval.

Through our call for volunteers effort, we are delighted to report that 42 members volunteered to help us reach our goals. These volunteers were assigned to various committees and through their teamwork have accomplished some very important tasks:

Publications Committee: Delivered a new look for our official newsletter, Information Executive (IE). Goal: Engage more volunteers to submit articles for IE monthly publication.

Programs Committee (Professional Development/Business Knowledge): Facilitated a 4-city CIO/Executive Leaders Forum to gather research on the IT profession needs for integrated leadership of business and technology. Two forums were held, in Dallas on March 27 and in San Diego on April 3. The remaining forums will be held in Chicago and Charlotte before May 20. Goal: Develop skill set criteria for IT business professional/profession in 2nd Qtr.

Marketing Committee: Issued a press release on our new logo which was picked up across the world by several media outlets. Goal: New press release each Qtr to publicize brand identity.

Marketing Committee: Requested inventory from Shane of old AITP logo products as well as new proposals from vendors for lapel pins, executive writing pens, and other promotional items. Using a bulk purchase discount, the Association will offer these items at cost to the chapters. Goal: Request to Chapters for bulk ordering in 2nd Qtr.

AITP Sponsored Events: Released a Request for Proposal to host the 2010 Members Summit. Goal: Select city and facility in 2nd Qtr

Partners and Affiliates Committee: Developed a Partner Prospectus and launched a call program to secure partners and sponsors. Goal: Secure revenue through sponsorships and portal advertising throughout the 2009 year.

Association Awards Committee: Revamped the COPA/PCS program and released new criteria for eligibility. The PCS name was changed to PCI (Professional Chapter Incentive) and released. The new COPA is being released in mid-April.

Corporate Membership Committee: Researching a corporate membership program to recommend to the Board. Goal: Submit program to the Board 2nd Qtr; Launch program in 4th Qtr

Student Leadership Council: In concert with the Student Membership Committee Council, researching the viability of high school chapters. Goal: Launch pilot program in 4th Qtr

Professional Membership: Released a promotion for spring and is researching a potential Faculty membership category. Goal: Launch promotions in 2nd Qtr and 4th Qtr

Leadership Development Committee: Delivered two workshops, Region 1 and Region 3. Goal: Continued development of workshop content and training manual 2nd Qtr.

Communications Committee: Reviewed current processes and delivered a new communications vehicle, Member News, using an email marketing tool licensed by the Association. This tool will be used to send professional-looking HTML type email messages. Goal: Deliver a full Communications Plan 2nd Qtr

Communications Committee: In concert with the Online Services Committee, delivered unique Services email addresses. These addresses are posted on the Contact Us page on the web portal. Chapter leader volunteers and members are encouraged to use these service addresses to ensure fast response and better customer service.

Online Services Committee: Delivered a new look for our aitp.org portal and released our aitpNetwork.org social site to the General Public - only public tabs/info will be viewable by non-members. Goal: Secure volunteers to assist in content management.

Online Services Committee: Created a Ning.com aitpChapter Web Template for uniform brand identity and feature/functionality. Our aitpNetwork.org site is built on the Ning.com platform. Chapters who need a website or who would like to replace their current website may sign up to use the free hosting service by Ning.com by contacting webmaster@aitp.org. The Ning.com platform is a full featured, content management platform and can be easily managed/administered by novices! Using this platform will allow chapters/regions to have multiple administrators, removing the burden of having one webmaster. Goal: Chapter/Region Webmasters meeting to be scheduled 2nd Qtr for full discussion of use by chapters/regions and gather input/feedback on chapter/region web site needs.

Online Services Committee: Created a prototype of a new web platform. The prototype is posted on both the aitpNetwork social site and the aitp.org Portal for feedback from the entire membership. A task force of subject matter experts (from chapters/regions) is being created for collaboration on design, function and features. Goal: Perform full web site needs/gap analysis and develop plan with recommendations 2nd Qtr.

There are many more projects underway and I look forward to reporting our performance results for next quarter. I want to thank all of our leader volunteers for their work of excellence this past quarter and for their continued support and passion to transform AITP.
