The June 26th issue of Green Electronics Daily quoted AITP President Mark Kleine on page five regarding AITP's standards for responsible handling of eWaste:

The Association of Information Technology Professionals Wednesday issued standards for responsible handling of e-waste that can be adopted by IT organizations. More than 1 billion units of computer equipment will become obsolete by 2010 said AITP President Mark Kleine: "Dealing with electronic waste is now an environmental crisis." Inappropriate handling of e-waste also could lead to loss of confidential and proprietary information, he said. The standards include: (1) Setting environmental goals about managing end-of-life electronics. (2) Complying with all applicable environmental, health and safety legal requirements. (3) Employing an IT asset retirement company.[1]
