The AITP Top Monkey award, started when the event was held in Tampa, Florida back in the year 2000, was earned by the Texas State University-San Marcos AITP student chapter. They sent 21 students & faculty, competed in 55 contests/contestants and traveled 677 miles one way to earn the award which recognizes the top student chapter that participates the most and brings the most attendees to the annual conference.
Runners up were: Oklahoma Panhandle State University & University of Alaska at Anchorage.
The winner is determined by a formula that takes into account the distance traveled, number of attendees from that college/university as well as the degree of participation in the contests by the attending students.
