Rick Kraas, Kalamazoo Valley Community College faculty co-advisor, recently discussed and presented the Mike Burell AITP National Collegiate Conference Volunteer of the Year Award. This award was created to honor Mike Burell who passed away from Lou Gehrig's disease and was a super volunteer for AITP-NCC. It was Mike's wish that all AITP NCC student attendees was to come away electrified by what they heard, saw, and experienced and filled with the desire to be better, and if they have a chance, come back and do better the next year. It is through efforts like Mike's that students do just that.
2006 (Dallas): The 1st award was presented to Chattahoochie Technical College where Mike attended to be displayed in his honor to inspire others to give back to AITP and this event after graduation.
2007 (Detroit), the 2nd award was presented to OleMiss graduate Mark Grimes who continues to support this event leading the contest lab servers, the Application Development Contest and is part of tonight's production team.
This year's winner was once a student attendee and is now NEW AITP NCC Committee member - an individual working with Bulldog Tenacity formerly of Ferris State University and now working for one of our sponsors - State Farm Insurance!
The 2008 the award went to Trevor Stokes who literally helped the event from the moment he arrived to after we were done tearing down the awards banquet. Trevor spent most of his time helping support the AITP NCC sponsors and exhibitors who all raved about the amount of support and attention that they received from Trevor.
May the Memory and Spirt of Mike Burell Live in Each of Us!
