Let me go back a moment to the Spring 2006 Region 2 Meting held in Dublin, California. Howard Smith, former DPMA member and Past President and his wife, Dorothy, Past Region 2 President and current Region 2 member attended the Friday evening dinner and asked, "If we held a DPMA Reunion in San Jose, California, do you think anyone would come?" We said, Sure!" Now, we had planned to have a Leadership presentation as a part of the dinner, but as you might expect, when Howard Smith is at dinner, Howard IS the dinner! The next morning, which came all too soon, the Region 2 board voted to hold the Fall Region 2 Meeting in conjunction with the DPMA Reunion to be held in San Jose, California. Remember, in California "Fall" is when we say it is.
But before the Fall meeting in San Jose came the Fall 2006 meeting in Portland, Oregon and I'm having second thoughts about all this. Remember, when I was a DPMA member, I was active only at the chapter level, not Region, not National. I don't know all these people, I thought. We started to think about scheduling problems and some wanted me to assure that I wouldn't let the business meeting run into the Reunion Banquet and I'm thinking, but we have a certain amount of business to take care of, like election of officers and I'm thinking we have to get 'er done!
I worried about things like having "Old Timers" sitting in on the business meeting wanting to tell us how things should be done, Members from Region 1 and 4 (also Western District), Region 18, National Officers including Mark Gilfand, Immediate Past Association President, 2 District Directors and a couple of people interested in the vacancy at Western District Director.
As it turned out, everything went pretty smoothly, the guests had good things to say, Mark Gilfand contributed a lot, we had time for Leadership topics and we had elections:Region President: Diana Shelton
1st Vice President: Sam Luke
2nd Vice President: Bruce Hinson
Secretary: Mark Mathis
Treasurer: Gladys Norman
The Spring 2008 Region 2 Meeting will be hosted by Central Idaho in Boise 4/24/08 - 4/26/2008.
We're talking about the Fall 2008 meeting being in Honolulu, the Spring 2009 meeting in Seattle and the Fall 2009 meeting in Anchorage.
I'll let Howard tell you more about the reunion events. I give him congratulations for being a fine host! Do we want another DPMA Reunion? Tell Howard.
President, AITP Region 2
