The AITP Region 4 Conference was held on April 16-17, 2007 at the Qwest Convention Center in Omaha, Nebraska under the leadership of Lee Cheever, Region 4 President. The conference was held in conjunction with the 2007 Infotec Business Technology Expo and Conference.

To kick off the conference, a reception hosted by the Omaha Chapter was held on Monday evening at the Hilton Hotel adjacent to the convention center. The reception was well attended by local, regional, and national AITP representatives and included constituents from the business community. A good time was had by all thanks to the Omaha Chapter's great hospitality.

On Tuesday, AITP members attended a session sponsored by Nebraska InfraGard with keynote speaker, Brian Snow, a retired NSA Technical Director. Brian's entertaining talk on commercial security products and services and their reliability and assurance of quality was an eye-opener for the morning session.

During the day, members attended two dynamic AITP Leadership Training Workshops. The first workshop, "AITP Member Care - Creating an I-Rate Membership", was presented by Deborah Lovell , our 2007 Association Secretary/Treasurer, Region 3 Past President, Dallas Chapter Past President and a member of the Association Membership Committee.

Deborah shared with the attendees all the great things happening at the Association level for our members, most importantly the new AITP Member Care Program that was launched on April 2nd. This program or call campaign reaches out to our current and new members for feedback on what they need from AITP to ensure they are receiving value for their membership. Her presentation included an education on her philosophy of an "I-Rate" member versus an "irate" member, and how we as a team can build and maintain an "I-Rate" membership. The second workshop was led by Elaine Miller, Region 4 Past President, Mile High (Denver) Chapter Past President and a member of the Association Membership Committee. Her presentation entitled "Ask Not What Your Association Can Do for You, Ask What You Can do for Your Association" focused on enhancing our leadership skills, how to become or be an effective AITP chapter leader, and how to make a "chapter of excellence". The workshop included knowledge sharing on how to hold a successful chapter program/meeting, secure great speakers, recruit new members, retain current members, and other requirements that chapter leaders need to take advantage of to create a strong chapter.

As in any training workshop, there was a test - an interactive test. Elaine tested the attendees on their AITP knowledge - the history and structure of AITP - making everyone more aware of some of the basics about our association which otherwise might not have been evident. She also discussed the dynamics of Region 4, its leadership roles, its structure with geographic borders, and membership composition. The many benefits from the national Association were brought to light, touching on new initiatives that have been created to make the chapter's role a little easier. A copy of Elaine's leadership presentation may be requested by contacting

Both of our special guest speakers did an excellent job on presenting the new directives that can be established to make each chapter grow and entice existing members to retain their membership in AITP. Becoming more active will create a sense of belonging, thus greater personal satisfaction.

In the evening, AITP members attended the AIM Technology Celebration & Awards Banquet which included the world's most famous "former hacker", Kevin Mitnick, as the keynote speaker.

We all in Region 4 would like to give a very hearty 'THANKS' to Deborah and Elaine Miller for making our 2007 Region 4 Conference a huge success! And a very special 'THANKS' to all the local volunteers and Infotec 2007 for their generous support.
