Dallas Chapter Supports 2007 NCC with Golf Tournament Fundraiser for Students
In 2006, AITP Dallas established an annual golf tournament specifically for providing its students financial support to attend the AITP National Collegiate Conference each year as well as sponsor cash prizes awarded to the winners of the NCC competitions. In 2006, AITP Dallas raised over $4,500 which was distributed to its student chapters and the NCC.
This year, on March 22, the 2nd Annual AITP Dallas NCC Golf Classic was held at Bear Creek Golf Club in Dallas, TX. The morning tournament kicked off with 9 teams playing and enjoying a day of fun and networking. To raise additional funds, the Chapter sold Mulligan's (for you non-golfers, mulligan's are "get one shot free" when you miss a putt or drive) as well as Raffle Tickets for great prizes donated by the PGA Tour Super Store, Dallas Golf and other tournament sponsors.
The players, sponsors and tournament volunteers enjoyed an Awards Banquet Luncheon directly after the tournament with a TexMex flair menu of food and drinks, and participated in a Silent Auction (more money raised) and the Awards Ceremony.
Taking home first place was, for the second year in a row, the Capgemini team, led by the Chapter's Vice President, Paul Naquin. Taking 2nd place was the Technisource team and 3rd place the second Capgemini team! Individual contests included the men's longest drive taken by Don Thomas of Ajilon and women's longest drive taken by Darcy Hamby of Capgemini.
Rounding out last place was none other than the AITP Dallas Immediate Past President's team, On Your Market (OYM). As immediate past president, Deborah is finally participating in AITP Dallas events as an actual attendee and welcomed an enjoyable and memorable day at AITP after 5 years of service as an officer. Her OYM team was comprised of her husband, Skip, her 25 year old stepson, Trey, and her 14 year old granddaughter, Tasha (a beginner in golf). Her team was honored to receive the "Most Challenged Team" Award presented by the Chapter's 2007 president, Craig Bowie, and is now placed in her offices among other AITP Dallas awards.
Special recognition of sponsors during the Awards Banquet was given to the golf classic Platinum Sponsors, Robert Half Technology and PGA Tour Super Stores, who each donated $2,500, as well as to the Silver Sponsor, True Solutions Inc. who donated $1,000. Sponsors of golf gloves, raffle gifts and goodie bag items included Dallas Golf, AvidGolfer, PGA Fore Texas, Bass Pro Shops (yes, the carry golf items), and Precept.
Special thanks are extended to all the event volunteers: Bill Fly, Marvin Cox, Ray Gilliam, Diana Rockel, and Amy Lopes.
The net results for the 2007 Golf Classic: Proceeds of $4,000 distributed to the Dallas Chapter's students attending the NCC and to the NCC for cash prizes to the competition winners.
Looks like the AITP Dallas Annual NCC Golf Classic is a Win/Win: a "fun raiser" for players and a "fund raiser" for the students and NCC!
See you in Memphis with the net results of the 3rd Annual Golf Classic next year
