What Headquarters Can Do for You - Improving Lines of Communication

One of our key strategic initiatives is to improve communication on all levels. At Headquarters, we can help facilitate communication in a variety of ways including communication to our entire membership and to the Chapter and Region leaders. We can also serve as a passageway from our membership to the Board of Directors. We hope this article helps lay the groundwork for how Headquarter staff supports our Members, Chapters and Regions alike.

We facilitate the delivery of numerous member email blasts to our student and professional members. These messages are often drafted in conjunction with a promotion or plan that the Board, or a Committee of the Board, is attempting to highlight. In an effort to limit the number of emails our members receive, we work diligently to create messages that highlight value in the form of announcements or services. Each member has the option to opt out of our messages if they choose not to receive communication from AITP sources, by going to the Update E-mail Message Preferences page in the "Members" section of the AITP web portal -

We send a monthly Chapter and Region communication to all Chapter and Region leaders. In this communication, we focus on timely issues which can impact the greater success of a chapter. The issues cover a wide area including up-to-date awards information, conference related announcements and new and pertinent affiliate information. The information is gathered from AITP Board Members and Chapter Leaders who know what information will provide the greatest interest to our members.

AITP protects your privacy by not releasing your name, email address, or any other identifying information to vendors or other 3rd party organizations. When there is an approved message to be sent to our members or leaders, we have the 3rd party send Headquarters the text, and then we send the message on their behalf.

If you have ideas for either Chapter communications or member email blasts, we encourage you to contact Headquarters. With an outline of the message from you or your chapter, we can work with you to develop a message that is both timely and relevant for all AITP members to hear.

We believe that communication is a two way street and we diligently work to respond to each and every email that arrives at or into our call center. Some questions are easy fixes, others take more research. In any event, we wish to respond to each and every question with 24 hours of the receipt of the email. If you have submitted a question that has gone unanswered, please call us directly at 800-224-9371 so we can begin finding a resolution. Furthermore, if there are questions that you have sent to your Chapter Leaders or your local Board member looking for answers and haven't received an adequate answer, we ask that you contact Headquarters and let us know so we can assist in finding you the appropriate answers.

To that point, if there are items that you believe need to be raised to a National level, we are a sound means of having your voice heard. We keep a list of pressing issues at the National level and raise key successes or concerns at our monthly Board meetings. These successes and concerns are an excellent way to develop new processes or ideas that produce value-added initiatives for our membership.

Improving communication has always been a goal of our headquarters staff and we continue to make strides to ensure that everyone is treated promptly. We are here to serve your needs and we will make appropriate communication the cornerstone of that service. If you have any questions or concerns regarding our communication process, please feel free to contact Headquarters via e-mail at or by phone at 800-224-9371 or 312-245-1070.
