Association News The Association Board of Directors and Association committees have been working on many programs to provide more value to your AITP membership. Here's a sample of some of that work.
The Board of Directors approved several new vendor affiliate agreements, which will provide members with discounts to software, conferences and educational sessions. One agreement will develop webinars for AITP members and provide speakers to chapters. A couple of agreements allow AITP to be noted in conference materials and to tell our story to conference attendees who may never have heard of our association before. This will drive new members to chapters. Once these agreements are finalized and signed, we'll announce the details of these new programs.
Several more vendor affiliate agreements are in the development stage, that when finalized, will provide AITP members with even more discounts on products, services and education, as well as resources for local chapter and region meetings.
Working with vendors to develop these agreements is the task of the Partners and Affiliates committee. That committee could use additional help in evaluating proposals and reaching out to vendors. If you are interested, please contact Eastern District Director Allan Kotmel. You can use the email link for the Partners and Affiliates committee on the AITP web portal's Committee Chairs page.
Western District Director Beth Pirrie's Membership Service Area is evaluating the results of their recent membership promotion pilot that is producing professional quality promotional materials that will help us better market AITP. Through the efforts of the Professional Member Retention Committee, we are once again contacting people who recently left AITP, to bring them back into the AITP ranks.
The Association Board of Directors approved a plan for an innovative fall student member promotion. More details will be coming from Association Executive Vice-President / President Elect Teresa Hickerson.
Central District Director Rich Barnier and his committee are hard at work developing a structure for supporting additional AITP Special Interest Groups. Please contact Rich if you are interested in the development of SIGs.
The Region Presidents are working together as a group, thanks to the leadership of Southern District Director David Stovall. The work of the Region Presidents Council allows Region presidents to develop solutions to common challenges and to learn best practices from one another.
Thanks to the efforts of Western District Director Jim Henry, Information Executive continues to be published on a regular schedule, providing news from all over the association to AITP members. Contributing articles is easy. Just send your articles to IEeditor@aitp.org. Perhaps you just completed some research or you want to teach others about your particular area of expertise. This is your chance to get published in a national publication. Has your chapter or region done something outstanding? If so, let the rest of the association know by submitting an article to Information Executive.
Under the leadership of Eastern District Director Darlene Gerber, the Awards committee is hard at work processing Chapter Outstanding Performance Awards (COPA), Professional Chapter Support (PCS) requests, and Individual Performance Awards (IPA). If you are interested in helping out with Awards, including work to update awards rules to be more relevant to today's IT professionals, please contact Darlene.
Southern District Director Joe Rocco has been working with another association to develop a way for the two organizations to partner together for their mutual benefit. When agreements are finalized, they will allow us to bring the message of AITP to another group of IT professionals and provide more opportunities to AITP members.
Central District Director Bob Grenier is organizing committees to provide leadership materials for chapter officers and a way to better share knowledge and best practices among all the chapters.
The Web Portal committee, under the leadership of Association Secretary/Treasurer Mark Kleine, developed a registration system that can be used for Region conferences, eliminating the need to purchase or develop their own registration systems.
These are just some of the many activities taking place at the association level. As AITP members, you have the opportunity to work with professionals across the industry to provide additional benefits for all AITP members. To join these committees, please contact the committee chairs or AITP headquarters.
2007 Association Elections It will soon be time to elect Association Officers and Directors for 2007. During July, the Association Nominating Committee will verify the eligibility of the nominees. Voting will begin in August. All members will receive an email with a link to the voting site, where you will be able to review the candidates' qualifications and vision statements and cast your vote.
This is your chance to determine who will lead the association in the coming years. Please take the time to vote for your association leaders when you receive the email in early August.
Is Your Chapter Web Site Current? During the summer, many chapters take a break from meetings for a month or so. And sometimes chapter web sites and the chapter page on the AITP web portal get out of date. Please consider IT professionals who are thinking about joining AITP. They go to the AITP web site and look for chapters in their areas. They find your chapter's page on the AITP portal and, if you have one, a link to your chapter website.
What will these IT Professional see at these pages? Will it be information about your last meeting? Or information about your future meetings? Will there be contact information? Are there calendar entries showing your meeting plans for the rest of the year? If not, the IT professional will most like turn away from your chapter and the association.
Chapter officers, please check your page on the AITP portal. Is it projecting the image you want to public to see?
Region officers, please survey the web portal's chapter pages and the web sites for the chapters in your region. Work with your chapters leaders as necessary to help project the best face forward for AITP, the Region, and the Chapter. This will help ensure that more IT Professionals will join our ranks and make AITP the professional association of choice.
