This is the fourth article of our continuing series of "What Headquarters Can Do for You." We have recently completed our highly successful, 11th annual National Collegiate Conference (NCC). At the NCC, we have colleges from across the country participating in contests and competitions designed at highlighting and delivering upon valuable IT knowledge that they have gained as IT students. Most of the students that participate in these competitions are sponsored from their University recognized - student chapters. We currently have over 200 Student Chapters in AITP, and we encourage other ambitious student leaders to organize new student chapters and participate in our annual National Collegiate Conference.
If you are a student or instructor who is interested in starting a student chapter, we encourage you to visit the Student Chapter Operations Handbook and follow the appropriate steps. Visit the How to Start a Chapter page on the AITP web portal. At Headquarters, we can assist the founding of a new student chapter through a variety of ways including:
We can facilitate a connection or pathway of communication between new student chapters and potential professional chapter sponsors
We can develop sample membership packets and materials for use at an upcoming meeting
We can supply all necessary membership forms and instructions essential for the foundation of a student chapter
We can supply a sample/draft constitution and bylaws to be used by student chapter leaders
We can have someone at Headquarters speak to (via conference call) an upcoming meeting of prospective members to highlight the value of belonging to AITP
We can work with the student chapter leaders to enroll all new members and supply with applicable membership packets
Most importantly, we will work with the student chapter leaders to ensure that all requisite paperwork is properly filled out and that all new membership applications are processed expeditiously
Attracting student members is one of our key goals and initiatives each and every year, and we at Headquarters are prepared to offer any support which is necessary to attain this goal. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this process, please feel free to contact Headquarters via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 800-224-9371 or 312-245-1070.
