Three Central Michigan University students with exceptional academic achievements in their study of SAP business software will receive $500 each at a noon luncheon April 7 at The Embers in Mount Pleasant.

Undergraduate students James Dickinson Jr. of Macomb and James Ellis of Marlette and graduate student Kathleen Driscoll of Higgins Lake will each receive The Dow/SAP Award of Excellence for their outstanding course work and performance in writing solutions to business problems for SAP applications.

"They are being recognized by The Dow Chemical Co. for their outstanding course work performance in their preparation of ABAP/4 Programming solutions to solve real business problems," said Frank Andera, director of CMU's SAP University Alliance Program. "SAP is a market and technology leader in enterprise application software, providing solutions for companies of all sizes and all industry sectors."

* James Dickinson Jr., the son of Jim Dickinson of Sterling Heights and Maureen Dickinson of Macomb, is a graduate of Dakota High School.
* James Ellis, the son of Kerri Chenoweth of Leavenworth, Kan., and Dean Ellis of Lansing, is a graduate of Marlette High School. He is a member of the SAP Student Users Group and CMU's Association of Information Technology Professionals student chapter. He served as webmaster and membership chairman last fall.
* Kathleen Driscoll, the daughter of Sharon and Brian Driscoll of Higgins Lake, graduated from Gerrish Higgins School District in Roscommon and is a graduate student completing her Master of Science in information systems degree.

CMU's new dean of the College of Business Administration, Michael Fields, and CMU President Michael Rao will speak at the event. CMU President Emeritus Leonard Plachta and numerous dignitaries from The Dow Chemical Co. also will attend the ceremony.

SAP is an enterprise-wide software solution that links an entire organization together with one computer information system. The German-based company offers software that shares information in real time with employees, suppliers and distributors no matter the size of the organization.

"SAP software is used by many Michigan companies such as Dow Chemical, Dow Corning, Steelcase, Whirlpool, General Motors, EDS, Ernst & Young, and many others, and CMU's College of Business Administration has been a national leader in integrating its business courses with enterprise resource planning concepts and understandings since 1997," said Andera.
