We were asked by our AITP sponsoring chapter in Oklahoma City to document our most recent field trip. This would allow other student chapters like ours know of what activities were performed during our field trips as well as encourage them to arrange such trips.

In the early September 2005, we arranged the visit to new Deloitte Consulting Outsourcing facility in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Our contact was former OSU-Stillwater AITP president who was recently hired by Deloitte. Deloitte is located in the Wiltel communications tower, in downtown Tulsa. This building is considered to be one out of the three most energy efficient buildings in the United States. This building was built with the assistance of the telecom boom money is said to be pretty high tech. However, recently they have discovered a flaw in the building which was noticeable when winds of 75mph destroyed a small set of the glass windows. During our visit, construction work to repair the flaw was in progress.

We were then directed to a meeting room where we had an opportunity to interact with our contact's team and manager. The team manager gave a presentation that included an overview of the company services. The various services offered by Deloitte are in the areas of strategy and operations, human capital, enterprise applications with SAP, technology and outsourcing. The outsourcing provides services with application packages, SAP, Oracle, Siebel as well as custom development. Deloitte considers itself as business performance consultants with broad and tailored professional services. Last year (2004) the Deloitte was ranked the #1 outsourcer by the Information Week. During the presentation, the manager distinguished Deloitte from other consulting companies by mentioning its characteristics such as collegial culture, client and result-focused targets, collaborative and team-oriented environment, straight talkers, and smart, confident and experienced employees. The manager also gave us an insight into their hiring practices by telling us about the requirements for the position when they hire fresh graduates. He also pointed out that how the company helps its employees to excel and achieve their goals. Then we were given a chance to ask questions to the team. The team members told us about their daily routine particularly for new hires in response to one of our questions.

The next topic on the agenda was a Jeopardy game with topics such as Oklahoma State University, Tulsa, Deloitte and Oklahoma geography. We were separated into two teams each with 7 members and given the opportunity to answer the questions to get points. The prizes were given to both teams. It was a fun game that helped us gain some knowledge about our University, Tulsa and the company.

After that we were provided with lunch and given a chance to converse with other employees from different Deloitte teams. Their teams were categorized as SAP, Oracle, and an in-house software development for health systems. We found very friendly and open environment at Deloitte.

The last topic on the agenda was an office tour. We were taken for a tour around the building and finally departed from the facility we were feeling close to.
