If you're reading this, hopefully you've noticed a slightly new look and feel to the IE/ns publication. If you've been around AITP for a while, you might say "this isn't the first time I've noticed a change." You're right!

Not too long ago, AITP moved to an electronic format. The net results of that move was a significant cost savings to AITP, and it allowed for a more flexible sizing of the newsletter. Just a short few months ago, under the direction of Mark Kleine, Communications Director and Southern District Representative, discussions started again about how to best utilize the technological resources and provide even a better format!

Prior to these discussion, we published IE/ns six times a year, with significant assistance from our outsource team of Smith Bucklin & Associates. Publishing more than this was cost prohibitive and also taxed the ability of our volunteers to provide enough content. So, the idea was born to move IE/ns from an E-Publication to a "self provisioned" on-line informational portal. The overall goal is to allow each member to modify the IE/ns newsletter to best fit their interests and needs. Take for instance the IT professional who is focused ONLY on programming. They might, or might not be interested in what is new with network infrastructure. So, they will have the ability to opt in or opt out of a section of the newsletter. Granted, there will be content that the committee deems important to ALL AITP members and those will remain in the "front" section of the portal. But as we get more granular, we thought it best to allow the member to select the information on their own.

Another goal - Self Provisioning. Why have an author write up their article, email it to someone else to format and put into IE/ns? Why not have them post it by themselves? Having to have some manageability of the content, the communications committee came up with the idea of having a review team. This would allow us to place material in the most appropriate area, and allow for someone to review the use of our English language before its live.

We're not done yet! This will continue to grow and morph to meet the ever-changing needs of our membership.

The Publications Committee is made up of the following people:
Chair - Jim Henry
Members
Ed Miller
Marko E. Johnson
Mark Kleine
Karen Essington
Diana Shelton

We are always looking for both your suggestions as well as your articles. We'd really like to know what is new within your chapter, or if you've found a new gadget that you'd like to tell us about, let us know!
