Members of AITP helped "in a major" way at the 2004 Ford Holiday River Parade on Friday night, November 26, 2004 as the beautiful San Antonio Riverwalk was turned into a holiday wonderland! 20 floats actually floated on the San Antonio river. All were decorated to the theme "A Children's Christmas". When you combine a full moon, mild temperatures (I was in shorts and a polo shirt), 122,000 colored lights in the trees lining the Riverwalk, and 150,000 people - you have a holiday party, San Antonio style!
Here was the time-line: Noon Volunteer Check-In area setup 2pm Captain Check-in 3pm Volunteer Check-in 7pm Lights, Camera & Parade 8pm+ Fold/Stack Chairs and enjoy the rest of the evening
AITP members from all over Region 3 came to not only see the parade but help out:
Parade Chairman: Kevin Jetton (San Antonio chapter liaison)
Seating Captain: Everett Welch (San Antonio chapter President)
Seating Volunteers: Teresa Hickerson & Family (Region 3 President & EF Regent)
Brian & Margie Batchelder (Big Country Chapter Member)
JoAnn Gude & Darlene English (San Antonio chapter members)
Also, four of my e-commerce course students from Texas State University - San Marcos also helped out (for extra credit of course).
The parade will be broadcast in 52 television markets (live or on a tape-delay basis) - many of which have AITP chapters. As you enjoy the holiday season and notice a broadcast of the famed San Antonio Holiday River Parade in your town - watch it, enjoy it with your family and remember that AITP helped make it all happen!
Happy Holidays from AITP and San Antonio!
