Picture yourself in command of a real life, military tank, maneuvering through 265 acres of rugged Texas land. Now picture the AITP Dallas chapter board members at a leadership management retreat in a tank, on a battlefield and in battlefield dress! That's the real-life experience board members Deborah Lovell, John Dyer, Dan Herod, Ray Gilliam, Marty Boggan and chapter assistant Skip Lovell enlisted in on July 8 at Tactical Tanks, LLC.
In 2004, AITP Dallas created a professional development series of programs to prepare its members for the Battle of Career Retention in the new age of IT.While we may be armed with the right tactical technology educational skills, many of us found out as we search the battlefield for today's jobs that our leadership and management skills are a bit behind the frontline, and in order to sustain our existing positions and/or receive promotions, we must hone up our personal skills.
Always in search of fun, exciting, out-of-the-box learning workshops, AITP Dallas President and Programs Chair Deborah Lovell recruited her army for a day at Tactical Tanks, a unique approach for leadership training. "When I saw Cheryl Hall's article, "Mission: Company Teamwork," in the Dallas Morning News back in March, I was so intrigued, I knew that I had to learn more about this program and consider it for one of our upcoming professional development series programs," said Deborah. By the end of the day, the AITP troop agreed unanimously. And, all team members had fared well and survived the Texas heat and land mines field.
David Estes and Dr. Deborah Estes run a corporate training camp outside of Sherman, Texas that uses a fleet of tanks and other military equipment to teach team-building skills. Tactical Tanks is an exciting alternative to the same old leadership classes and team building programs. "You get in a battle tank and sail out across the Texas countryside with a set of orders and a mission," David Estes, CEO of Tactical Tanks, explained to the group. Some of the exercises teams perform include navigating tanks through minefields without instruction, rescuing a downed pilot in enemy war zones and convoying in a V-formation, all of which require team communication in each tank crew and as an entire platoon. What an awesome concept for leadership training!
A Tactical Tanks representative will be the guest speaker at the AITP Dallas September program being held at the Hotel Intercontinental in Dallas. Dr. Deborah Estes will bring to attendees her leadership management workshop; David Estes, commander of Tactical Tanks, will bring his tank. Yes, a real tank!
AITP Dallas expects this event to be a special once-in-a-lifetime experience. For information on how to attend, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call (972) 682-5453.
