ATIP Dallas Exhibits at Microsoft Security Summit 2004

When opportunity knocks, you can bet the Dallas Chapter will open the door! We've been looking for more ways to build our membership and monthly program attendance, so we signed up for the free exhibit offered to AITP by Microsoft Security. The exhibitor cost of $1,200 for the exhibit entry was waived by Microsoft Security for the AITP chapters thanks to Kevin Jetton, our master of building great partnerships for our national association and local chapters.

Held on April 30 at the Dallas Convention Center, the Microsoft Security Summit provided a free conference and exhibitors pavilion for attendees to learn how to better protect their IT infrastructure and applications against security threats, both today and in the future.

The Exhibitors Pavilion was open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for Microsoft Partners to display their services and products. AITP Dallas was the only membership association exhibiting and we are glad we were there. Our mission for the day was to inform as many of the attendees as possible about AITP, and invite them to register for our upcoming Special May Event that will showcase the Microsoft Longhorn Feedback Session.

The success was tremendous! We were one of the exhibitors most visited (if not the most), we handed out all 150 of our May Promotion membership applications by 9:10 a.m. and had to run to Kinko's to get 200 more printed (a big thanks to National for discounting the memberships for May and securing a Kinko's partnership - we saved 30 percent on our urgent printing needs!), and we handed out more than 200 registration forms for our upcoming program on May 19.

Some immediate results were: one paid membership onsite, 50-plus registrations for our program on May 19 and six potential sponsors for our event on May 19. And it's not stopping! Our phones are ringing off the wall and we are receiving faxes daily.

This great co-marketing opportunity with Microsoft has given the Dallas chapter a viable vehicle for its 2004 membership drive campaign. Our partnership with Culminis-Microsoft for our May event has tallied 175 registered attendees so far, four paid sponsors and six more potential, door prize donations worth more than $1.2 million and tremendous media publicity. The Dallas Morning News wrote an extra article about our upcoming event, and the staff, along with the associate publisher of Windows&.NET Magazine, will be attending our May event.
