Ann Landers once wrote, "Opportunities are usually disguised as hard work, so most people don't recognize them." I'd like to spend a minute discussing the valuable opportunities available for every member of AITP to get involved with the association and to make the most out of your membership experience.

AITP as an association is only as strong as the commitment of its membership. We are fortunate enough to have a network of chapter volunteers that serve in capacities that encourage networking and engage AITP members at the local level. Immersing yourself in the association is not only easy, but it's an incredibly rewarding journey that can take you as far as you'd like to go within the industry.

In this issue of Information Executive alone, you'll see two wonderful examples of AITP members who took advantage of an opportunity to work with AITP, only to have that experience greatly impact their lives. In the Chapter News section of this newsletter, you'll find a picture of Bill Howell from the Garden State chapter who only missed one AITP national conference since 1965. A truly incredible level of involvement, Bill's commitment to AITP has kept him in the forefront of trends and technologies within the industry for almost four decades and has maximized his member experience.

Also in Chapter News, take a second to read through a touching letter detailing the impact AITP (DPMA) had on the life Daniel A. Will, and subsequently how his involvement affected his family. This loving tribute from his son details the joy, honor and pride Mr. Will felt regarding his connection with AITP and as DPMA president.

If that isn't enough, check out the anniversary recipients list on www.aitp.org and take a look at the remarkable number of members who have been sharing in the success of AITP for as long as 50 years.

Continual involvement in the association will certainly increase your professional knowledge, technical experience and your network of colleagues and friends. If you are not sure how to get involved with a chapter or members in your area, please feel free to contact headquarters for more information.

One of the easiest ways to help the association is to let us know what AITP can, and should be doing to help its members and remain at the forefront of Information Technology education and networking. If you have any constructive feedback you'd like to share with us, please send it to aitp_hq@aitp.org . We continuously encourage chapter officers and members to provide feedback on current processes so that we can make changes to better serve you. Along these lines, in coming months one of the first steps we are taking to assess our membership value is a Professional Membership survey. Professional members will receive a link to an electronic survey that will solicit input on member benefits, what you look for at the national and chapter level, and how you view AITP's value proposition. In the future, we will continue to move in that direction soliciting feedback in various ways from chapter leaders and student members to allow the leadership of AITP make decisions based on input from you.

In addition to preparing for a successful Collegiate Conference, Headquarters is busy updating our member database. I'd like to personally thank everyone who sent in their preferred and current email address to Headquarters as a result of the postcard professional members received in early March. We are fortunate enough to have strong e-mail records for our student members and now we are now well on our way to building the information database necessary for future communication to all members.

AITP Headquarters is continually working to better serve the entire association membership. I believe that if you offer constructive feedback we can make a difference for you. We all know that you only get out what you put into something. It is our goal to help every member of AITP find value in their membership experience.
