Some members have asked me why we are still displaying our 60th Anniversary logo. In the alphabet soup of organizations focusing on IT professionals, 60 years is worth celebrating. While the State of Illinois granted a charter to our predecessor, the National Machine Accountants Association (NMAA), on December 26, 1951, the First Annual NMAA Convention took place in Minneapolis in 1952. Groups from 27 chapters met and elected Robert L. Jenal, a Systems Manager for Toni Company, as the first Association President. It is my distinct honor to be the 60th Association President.
February is Presidents' Month in AITP, a time when we stop and thank our Chapter and Region Presidents and Past Presidents. These volunteers are the grass roots leaders who provide member services at the local chapter level. They, and their local boards, plan and deliver programs, organize meetings and networking events, and are the ever-present face of AITP to our members. Many of our Chapters hold recognition programs to honor their Past Presidents and thank them for their service. As a Past Chapter President and a Past Region President, I want to say "thank you” to all of the members who have supported my efforts on behalf of the Association.
Now that we have stepped firmly into 2012, I want to update you on two important outcomes from our January Association Board of Directors (ABoD) meeting. First, we adopted the Association Budget for 2012 that represents a 21% reduction in Association expenses compared to 2011. Second, we adopted the organization structure for 2012. Click here to view the 2012 Organization Chart showing the various Committees and Task Forces in each of the Service Areas. We are still looking for a few good volunteers to chair several of our committees. If you are interested, or just want some additional information, please contact me at President@aitp.org.
Finally, I want to invite you to join us at the 2012 National Collegiate Conference (NCC) in San Antonio March 29th to March 31st. In just one trip, you can interact with over 650 of the nation's top IT students and faculty from leading colleges and universities from all over the country. This is a great opportunity to help give forward to the next generation of IT professional. I hope to see you in San Antonio.
