At its annual CIO conference on May 22, 2012, the AITP Long Island Chapter (AITP-LI) proudly awarded scholarships, totaling $3500, to qualifying graduating high school seniors and currently-enrolled college students who are children or grandchildren of active AITP-LI members. An AITP member may sponsor only one student application annually, and must have been a member for at least one year of an active AITP chapter at the time of application submittal. Previous AITP scholarship recipients are not eligible.
The following 10 recipients were honored in a ceremony during the luncheon meeting:
Marissa Ziems, granddaughter of W. Paul Ziems
Jessica Mulderig, daughter of Gerry Mulderig
Greg Klarides, grandson of Kenneth Mole
Kelly O'Rourke, granddaughter of Lawrence O'Rourke
Eitan Adler, son of Dafna Adler
Joseph Pavone, son of Tom Pavone
Anthony Angelo Maiorano, son of Anthony Maiorano
Samantha Noelle Guarino, daughter of Charles Guarino
Stephen Kassinger, son of Kenneth Kassinger
Jake Mandel, son of Stanley Mandel
The AITP-LI Scholarship Awards Program was conceived in 1977, when the organization was known as Data Processing Management Association (DPMA). For many years, the program was funded by profits from the annual AITP-LI Golf Tournament, which was started in 1976 and provided thousands of dollars in scholarships. The scholarship program was one of the keys to the AITP-LI Chapter's first Chapter Outstanding Performance Award (COPA) in 1978.
The AITP-LI Chapter has awarded one or more scholarships to deserving students each year, for at least 35 consecutive years.
