Here we are at the end of July. My, how this year is flying. I took the opportunity last week to present a mid-year review for our Chapter and Region Leaders. Some of the highlights:
Congratulations to the Austin Chapter for winning the Association Outstanding Chapter Award (AOCA) for 2011. It will be the first chapter to be presented with the William F. Howell Cup, which honors our only 60-year member.
NCC 2012 held in San Antonio in March ( http://www.aitp.org/news/88579) attracted 775 attendees, which is the largest attendance since we had 820 attendees in Dallas for the 2006.
We entered into a partnership with NYU Poly, which we publicized in Information Executive (http://www.aitp.org/news/93189). AITP members will receive a 10% tuition rebate upon successful completion of any online course at NYU-Poly. This can lead to significant savings for an AITP member who is pursuing a Master's degree.
We chartered five new Student Chapters since January: De Vry University - Cleveland (Akron Chapter sponsoring); Grambling State University (New Orleans Chapter); Kennesaw State University (Atlanta Chapter); Kent State University Columbiana (Akron Chapter); University of Texas at El Paso (Austin Chapter).
Information Executive publishing about every six weeks. We would like to push it every month. Please send articles to firstname.lastname@example.org.
At the July Association Board of Directors (ABoD) meeting, we approved:
Making permanent annual Association membership dues of $70 for Student Chapter Faculty Advisors;
Extending Unemployed Professional Membership discount at $70 for annual Association dues until December 31, 2013;
Entering partnership with SANS Institute to offer the SANS Securing the Human (STH) Security Awareness Program for Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to organizations with an AITP member – more information to follow in Information Executive.
We also approved by acclamation the following individuals for 2013 Association Officer and Directors:
Michael Welch (Capitol Chapter) – Association Executive Vice President/2014 President-Elect
John Council (Northeastern Wisconsin Chapter) – Association Secretary
Paul Ziems (Long Island) – Association Treasurer
Julian Wade (Atlanta) – Association Director (Southern District)
Barbara Viola (Long Island) – Association Director (Eastern District)
There will be an election in the Western District for Association Director between Pete Schmitt (2011 Association Treasurer) and Al Strong (2011-2012 Association Director).
We've got a tough road ahead of us when it comes to Professional membership. Your ABoD has set a goal of 10% membership growth. We have had some problems with membership reports that impacted membership retention, and the Online Services Team has been working diligently through these issues. But I need your help, and I am issuing this challenge – if every Professional member converts one guest at a Chapter event to a member between now and December, then we will more than meet our end-of-year goals.
I hope to see many of your at our Annual Meeting of the Members in Green Bay on October 10th or at ISECON 2012/CONISAR in New Orleans in November.
