While I was traveling in September, I picked up a copy of USA Today on its 30th Anniversary. It brought back many memories of where I was and what I was doing on the first day that USA Today hit the newsstands – in Atlanta for senior executive meetings at National Data Corporation corporate headquarters. Then, last weekend, a friend of mine posted a discussion question on LinkedIn asking: "What was going on in your life THIRTY years ago?” It got me to thinking about my early days in AITP (then DPMA) … and where AITP may be 30 years from now.

AITP has undergone a great deal of change over the last three decades, and I foresee much more in the next three decades. Change is one constant for IT professionals … and AITP will have to respond to and support change as it occurs if we are to stay relevant. I'll be addressing how we do this when I speak to the Region 5 Conference on October 10th in Green Bay (see for Conference details).

As September rolls into October, our professional and student chapters are back in high gear, as are many of our Regions. In addition to Region 5's Fall Conference on October 10th and 11th, Region 3 is holding its Student Conference October 11-13 at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (see for more information). This is our second largest student event of the year, NCC being the largest. The following week, on October 18th, the San Diego Chapter and Region 1 are holding the 4th Annual AITP Cloud Computing Conference (check out  Region 18 then holds its annual itCon in Elkview, WV, focusing this year on Windows 8, Server 2012 and Office 2013 (see for registration information).

Last, but not least, ISECON/CONISAR 2012 will be held in New Orleans November 1-4. The focus of ISECON/CONISAR 2012 is Cloud Computing and Big Data. To learn more about this joint conference, visit and ISECON is sponsored by the Foundation for IT Education. CONISAR is sponsored by AITP's Education Special Interest Group (EDSIG). Both groups work together to manage and deliver these joint conferences in order to explore new frontiers in IT education and applied research.

So … the next five weeks will be very busy around the Association. For those who cannot make the Annual Membership Meeting in Green Bay on the 10th, we will recap it and provide a Q3 report during the Virtual Water Cooler on October 23rd. Then it is off again to …
