Past Presidents Night and Scholarship Awards Night:
Harold M. Pool Recognition Award
Dave Sanders Columbine Information Technology Scholarship

On May 16, 2013, the AITP Mile High Chapter held its Past Presidents and Scholarship Awards Night dinner meeting at the Hotel VQ at Mile High, Denver, Colorado.

It was an excellent meeting, and a good opportunity for the young and not-so-young to discuss the history and current state of IT. Roberta Gamza, the keynote speaker, taught us how to cut our job search time in half. She is a professional resume writer and the founder of Career Ink, and specializes in resume writing as well as tools and strategies for career advancement and transition. It was the perfect topic, especially for the students in attendance and everyone seeking to advance his or her job hunting skills.

Six Chapter Past Presidents attended, and it was a pleasure to see them and reminisce.

 Mile High Chapter Past Presidents:

Randy Storm (11-13), Wayne Ashmore, CDP (68-69),
Carla Henebry-Branscombe (00-01), John Price (08-09, 10-11),
Elaine Miller (95-96, 02-03, 07-08), Bill Stegen (05-07)

Our award-winning students from Colorado Mesa University (formerly Mesa State College) and their advisor, Dr. Johnny Snyder, drove over the mountains from Grand Junction to present a report of their experiences at the AITP 18th Annual 2013 National Collegiate Conference (NCC), held in St. Louis.

We all congratulated Paul DuCray for placing in the top ten in the Security Scenario competition (49 teams) and for his Honorable Mention in PC Troubleshooting (154 contestants); Dustin DeLor for placing third in PC Troubleshooting; Dustin and Dr. Snyder for obtaining the Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) in Security Certificate; and Dr. Snyder for also obtaining the MTA in Networking Certificate. Other Mesa NCC participants this year included Kaemen Chiles, Nathaniel Gallegos, and Michaela Ervin. The Chapter is very proud of the Mesa NCC team.

Paul DuCray, junior from CMU, received the Harold M. Pool Recognition Award (previously known as the Harold M. Pool Memorial Scholarship) for $650. This award is given in memory of our Chapter’s first president (1952-1953) and longtime mentor. By the way, Paul has won awards at the three NCCs in which he has participated, and came away with two job offers this year! We wish Paul much success in his senior year and after he graduates.

Unfortunately, students at our newly formed AITP student chapter at National American University in Rapid City, SD, and their advisor, Steven Lashwood, were unable to attend the meeting. However we look forward to their active participation in the future.

Best wishes to all our students as they prepare for the IT job of their dreams.
