The 2010 Association Past President was a guest speaker at the National Federation of the Blind in Computer Science Annual Board Meeting held on July 5, 2010 at Dallas, TX. Deborah Lovell spoke to the NFB members about the career opportunities for vision-impaired IT professional technologists in today's IT organizations, and why joining a professional society is important for all IT professionals.

Curtis Chong, President of the National Federation of the Blind in Computer Science, discussed the need for a special interest group within AITP that would advocate for blind IT professionals and provide a venue to champion and guide the advancement of IT careers for these professionals. Nancy Kaufman, an active AITP member from the Lincoln Chapter, volunteered to lead the establishment of this special interest group.
