By adopting our 3-yr Strategic Plan, we have given our 57-year old Association the opportunity to transform into the leading organization of the IT business profession. But, we must realize that our window of opportunity narrows every day.
At the beginning of this year, a call to action with sense of urgency was made and our membership overwhelmingly responded. We have a wealth of talented leader volunteers working on 2009 projects outlined in our 3-yr Strategic Plan that are essential to our road to success.
In the short time of this first half of 2009, I would like to highlight some of our teamwork:
1. We have a new vision, one that aligns with today's and tomorrow's IT industry and profession. 2. We have a new brand, one that is uniform and presents us to the general public with credibility and professionalism. 3. We have a strategic direction that thrusts AITP into the limelight as a leader of the IT business profession. 4. We have over 40 volunteers across the nation researching and performing due diligence to ensure the change AITP makes is made right and stays aligned with our strategic goals. 5. We have over 25 CIO/Executive Leaders participating in our AITP Profession Advisory Council and guiding us to deliver the right educational programs to advance our current and future members' careers. 6. We have chapter leaders and member volunteers, both professional and students, who are attending Association-led monthly calls, creating uniform websites, rebuilding their chapters, applying for financial support, submitting for awards, and spreading the word among their members and guests each month that great things are happening at AITP. 7. We have a Student Leadership Council developing high school and elementary outreach programs to encourage our youth to join us for their future. 8. We have our EDSIG group desirous of a stronger relationship with the overall Association. 9. We have vendors who are excited to partner with AITP and willing to increase their financial support and provide better benefits to the overall association. 10. We have a HQ staff dedicated and reenergized to help us succeed.
And very importantly, we have come together as a stronger body through a common thread: the passion to position our Association with a future that will make a significant impact in the lives of our members and within our profession.
At the end of this second quarter, we will be releasing a full Performance Report again - so our members stay informed. A more detailed update will be provided on the Virtual Water Cooler call as well as the report being posted to the portal.
As you know, leading AITP to the next level takes "bold" dramatic change. And as we all know, acceptance of change is required by each and every one of us if we want to successfully achieve our goals.
Change management is the most critical factor for our success. As Association President, I have the responsibility of managing this change. For the past few months, I sense there is a fear of change among some of our membership or that perhaps I am not communicating effectively or often enough (sound bites or bits of information sometimes just isn't enough and if delivered wrong or untimely, can create the wrong perception.)
Fear of change or incorrect information will paralyze us. So to continue this ardent journey, I respectfully ask that each of you contact me personally when you hear sound bites or pieces of information that concern you or if you just want to hear what we are doing. As the chief over-seer of this great organization, I carry a full load and sometimes fail to make sure the information flows correctly and timely to you.
With that said, I encourage all of you to channel your energy to help us achieve positive advancement of the Association. We cannot survive if we retreat or remain stagnant. We cannot let fear of change paralyze us in reaching our goals.
Our strategic direction must be adopted Association-wide if we plan to deliver a viable organization aligned with our vision:
AITP is the leading worldwide society of information technology business professionals and the community of knowledge for the current and next generation of leaders.
Your continued support of AITP is greatly appreciated and I thank each of you for your dedication and passion to further our association.
