At a recent meeting of the Northeastern Wisconsin (NEW) Chapter of AITP, the Chapter presented a check for $6,100 to the Foundation for Information Technology Education. The funds are earmarked for the Sherry Anklam Memorial Award (SAMA) fund. This fund was established by the Chapter a number of years ago to provide scholarships to deserving students who are active members of the AITP Student Chapters sponsored by the NEW professional chapter. The award is named in honor of Sherry Anklam, a Past President of the NEW chapter, who succumbed to cancer at the age of 44. Sherry was instrumental in developing the student chapter scholarship program as well as establishing "100% Attendance" night for the professional chapter.
The scholarship fund that bears Sherry's name is administered by the Foundation for Information Technology Education for investment purposes. Donations to the fund by companies and individuals are tax deductible under current laws. The NEW chapter processes scholarship applications and makes the decisions on the awards.
Annually, the chapter raises funds for the scholarship program through its Golf Outing. Shown below, on the right, is Rick Griesser, Golf Outing Chairman, presenting the check for $6,100 on behalf of the Chapter to Larry Schmitz, Past President of the Foundation for Information Technology Education.
