Region 7 Update

AITP SUMMIT 2009


Greeting fellow AITP Leaders and Members. We just wrapped up a wonderful Member's Summit in Dallas Texas and I think everyone who attended would agree that the event was certainly worth the time and effort to attend. We had 12 members from Region 7 in attendance and I want to thank each of you for taking time from your busy schedules to attend. The event proved to be educational, inspirational and the gala dinner and dance was tons of fun. Who said IT professionals can't dance? We have many photos that we will be sharing that will certainly prove just the opposite (just keep an eye on the region 7 website). Our President for 2009, Deborah , did a fantastic job overseeing the many aspects of the Summit and deserves a "Big Thank You."

More news will be shared in upcoming IE articles. Check the AITP National website for details. Perhaps the biggest decision the members voted on during the summit was to change the current logo. You will be seeing it very soon and we are sure you will be pleased with the decision our members in attendance made.

All members will be asked if they would like to serve on a Committee at the Association Level. If you have an hour or two a month that you can assist in the many efforts to continue to lead the association in a positive direction, please sign up when the request is sent. We would like to see many members of Region 7 represented on the various committees.

REGION 7 Update
A Region 7 Chapter also took home the President's Cup, which is yet another feather in our Region Hat. Read the article online.

We also want to take the opportunity to welcome the many new leaders at the Chapter and Region Level. We need to share with leaders some of the updates that will be necessary to meet Association Guidelines.

Please send your 2009 officers to Melissa at the following link AITP_Hq@AITP.org. She will then update your information on the portal which will allow your officers access to chapter reports. An updated site will also allow you to list your calendar of events. We ask that you also consider listing regional and national events on your calendar as well. If you have a standalone website in addition to the portal, both will need updating.

STUDENT CHAPTER INFO
We would ask that you begin the notification process of your student chapters to allow them the opportunity to plan to attend the National Collegiate Conference in Oklahoma City, April 2-4. Student Chapter Leaders may also request funding from Culminis to assist with expenses. For information and requests please contact our group representative at gitca@aitp.org. The Association is also promoting a "new student" discount through March 31st. Students joining will only pay a fee of $25.00.

EVENT FUNDING FROM CULMINIS
Each Professional Chapter is eligible for funding from Culminis. The rules have changed a little this year in that the maximum amount a chapter can receive is $1000 and the largest increment can only be $500. But, $500 would host a great business after hours for IT professionals in your chapter a couple of times a year, so it is certainly worth your effort. Last year we had 6 chapters benefit and our Region received a sizable amount as well. Our group leader for Culminis can also assist in pointing you to potential Microsoft speakers and gifts. CHAPTER OUTSTANDING CHECKS
As a reminder, we still have outstanding checks for our Region that date back to 2006. They can be reissued by contacting MLapsansky@aitp.org. The information on which chapters have outstanding checks can be found on your chapter portal on the Association website. Email me if I can assist at nevans@trainwithpst.com.

Our 2009 Association Treasurer, Michael Welch is asking us to participate in the ACH program, thus eliminating the check issues. Direct deposit is the GREEN way to go, and I would encourage each of you to fill out the ACH Program doc and mail to the address on the form. You may also e-mail as a PDF to AITP_Hq@AITP.org.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST
Each year in January members of the Association Board of Directors and any Officer or Director of any AITP sub-unit must agree to the organization's Conflict of Interest policy. Each person must complete this agreement once per year regardless of the number of positions within the Association that he/she may hold. When an individual replaces another or fills a vacancy during a calendar year, he/she shall agree to this policy at that time if he/she has not already done so during that year. The Conflict of Interest form can be located at the Conflict of Interest Page.  It is all online and it only takes a moment. Should you have any questions, please contact secretary@aitp.org for clarification.

AWARDS Info Update
We are in a holding pattern for COPA and PCI. The forms are being revised and our awards committee will be announcing when the forms are ready and the deadline for submission. For those Chapters who have never applied for COPA or PCI, I would encourage you to contact the awards committee for assistance.

Individual Performance Awards can be submitted at any time and again, I would encourage chapter leaders and all members to complete them yearly.

VIRTUAL WATER COOLER
Chapter and Region leaders are invited to attend the 2009 Virtual Water Cooler teleconference/webinar series. All Virtual Water Coolers are scheduled for the fourth Tuesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. CST. The first is to be held on February 24th. One week prior to the meeting, a Chapter and Region email will be sent with the topic, updated web link and conference line. If you have any questions or would like to learn more about the Virtual Water Cooler series, please call AITP Headquarters at 800-224-9371.

UPCOMING REGION AND NATIONAL EVENTS
Regionally and Nationally we have quite a few events in the works. If you have something special planned that you would like to invite other chapters to participate or attend, please let us know so we can share the information with all Region 7 Chapters. Likewise for announcements, if there is something special happening in your chapter that would be of interest to all members of Region 7 we want to hear from you.

APRIL
Our NCC Conference will be held April 2-4 in Oklahoma City and if you have never been to one, you are missing a real event! Last year we had almost 700 students and professional members attend. The competitions were eye-opening to say the least and the money given for scholarships was amazing.

MAY
Polk County Chapter in Lakeland will be holding an IT Showcase May 7th and 8th, and it is free to all Region 7 members who may want to attend. The Showcase will be followed by a Golf Tournament on the 9th.

SEPTEMBER
The tentative date for the Region 7 Professional Conference and Student Competition to be held in Chattanooga is September 25-27. More information with a firm date to come and please check the Region 7 portal for updates.

NOVEMBER
The ISECON/CONSAIR convention will be held in the Crystal City Hotel, Arlington VA, November 4-8, 2009. The Information Systems Educator's Conference (ISECON)/Conference on Information Systems Applied Research (CONISAR) provides special opportunities for information technology faculty. For over a quarter of a century, the Foundation for Information Technology Education (FITE) has been providing this forum for educators (EDSIG).

And finally, all leaders now have access to Live Meeting, a perfect way to meet if you can't get together.
