IT Expo Alaska, the states largest gathering of IT Professionals was held September 30, 2008 at the William Egan Center in downtown Anchorage. The Anchorage Chapter has been the patron sponsor of IT Expo for many years, and as such provides the Conference content for the show. "Having a core team of IT professionals on our Conference Committee allows us to focus on what is important to IT today," reports Mark Mathis, Conference Chair and Anchorage Chapter President.
Conference topics included Security, Storage, Microsoft, Communications, Document Management as well as Infrastructure. Conference sessions were held every hour on the hour at one of the six stages. "By having four of the six stages right on the trade show floor, we were able to keep the buzz. In the past, when the sessions would fill up, the floor would empty. That's good news for the folks who are presenting, but it leaves the booth folks standing around. Now, we keep both sides happy" says Steve Gonzalez, President of Gonzalez Marketing, show owner.
Another new feature of IT Expo 2008 was Webcasting of sessions from one stage, as well as the noon Keynote presented by Cisco Systems. So, even if you couldn't attend IT Expo 2008 this year, you can still get a taste of the high quality presentations by going to http://www.itexpoalaska.com/ and clicking on one of the eight sessions recorded.
With over 800 registered attendees, 43 presentations, 90 exhibitor booths and nearly 20,000 square feet of display, it's pretty easy to say that there was something for everyone. Granted, Anchorage Alaska is a far cry from Las Vegas with it's million square feet of display, but the goal of IT Expo Alaska is to provide QUALITY to participants - not necessarily volume.
