Rick Kraas, from Kalamazoo Valley Community College, at the recent 2008 AITP NCC awards banquet highlighted the AITP Faculty Extra Mile Award.
The award was created to recognize a faculty member who goes beyond what is expected by an advisor or an associated faculty member to help her or his chapter and the students who comprise it. Just to remind you, it's easy to nominate someone for this award: Just go to the NCC Website and click on the Extra Mile Award link. You will be led through what you need to do. The recipient can either be your chapter advisor or another faculty member who is always there to help.
Past winners include: *2004: Dawn Pantaleo, Kalamazoo Valley Community College *2005: Jack Russell, Northwestern State University *2006: David Weirschem, Midwestern State University *2007: Robert Brzycki, Milwaukee Area Tech. College - West Campus *2007: Monica Holmes, Central Michigan University
This year's recipient fits the mold: Beyond organizing chapter meetings and taking care of the details to get his chapter to NCC he gives extra time to mentor his students resulting in their earning several awards at AITP competitions. He even gives up use of his home for chapter events and I hear the food is plentiful and good. The large number of testimonial letters he received show not only a caring individual who is always there to assist his students in their development whether it is personally or professionally but also someone who is greatly cared for. A tireless supporter of AITP who has provided leadership while being a friend!
The award was presented to Johnny Snyder, Mesa State College!!!!
Congratulations Johnny and all the Mesa State College AITP'ers!
