The AITP National Collegiate Conference continues to be the single largest event produced by AITP annually and the 2007 event was yet another HUGE success from many angles. March 29-31, 2007 in Detroit, Michigan had 731 total attendees right along with many Wrestlemania23 fans that we were sharing the hotel and meeting space with. Even though our attendance was slightly down from 2006, this parallels the decline in the number of CIS/IT/CS majors across the country and our attendance was still strong with 731 total attendees. The Central Michigan University AITP student chapter and MIS Advisory board did an extraordinary job as hosts and were instrumental in the overall success of the event! The conference was chaired by Dr. Monica Holmes from Central Michigan University and Sean Guitar of EDS.
The success of the event was a direct result of the efforts the Central Michigan University MIS Advisory board - specifically Delphi's Lynn Eady, Compuware's Bob Kennedy and Chris Jablonski from DP Management. Noteable sponsors of the conference included returning Diamond Sponsor Robert Half Technology along with new Internet Café and Network Design contest sponsor Dell. Additional sponsors included Microsoft, Central Michigan University and Central Michigan University Research Corporation, State Farm, Wal-Mart, AT&T, GM, Fast Enterprises, ICCP Education Foundation, the Foundation of Information Technology Education, Automation Alley and Geico. Additional sponsors included Auto-Owners, Booz Allen & Hamilton, Compuware, Dow, EDS, Ernst & Young and Optimal Resume. Exhibitors included Ford, USAA, IBM and Protiviti.
The conference continues to deliver true value and opportunities to the AITP student & faculty and unique opportunities to hear leading IT organization speakers through keynotes and breakout sessions. Attendees had the opportunity to visit the Microsoft Across America Bus which was in town specifically for the conference through the Robert Half Technology/Microsoft partnership and over 400 visited the bus - a single day attendance record! The keynote panel moderated by Robert Half Technology Katherine Spencer Lee got the event off to a huge success Friday Morning with tons of tips for obtaining that cool job in the field of IT and was followed by an impressive breakout session speaker line-up including a superb luncheon keynote address by State of Michigan CIO Teri Takai.
The conference concluded with yet another super awards banquet wherein we enjoyed a wonderful meal, enjoyed special guest speaker, Ford Dealer and CMU alumni Marc Cross and eagerly awaited the announcement of the RHT/AITP scholarship winners and the contest winners! With enhanced audio-visual from the AITP NCC volunteer event team complete with spotlight, improved sound system, three screens and the conference traditional slide show which captured many conference moments produced by Central Michigan University - all were able to see, hear and enjoy the banquet which has become the true highlight of the entire conference!
Planning has already started for the 13th annual AITP National Collegiate Conference which will be held in Memphis, Tennessee March 27-29, 2007 hosted by the University of Mississippi AITP student chapter. Have a Great Summer and see you in Memphis next year!
