For the fourth year, Anchorage AITP chapter 150 has been instrumental in providing technical assistance for IT Expo, the largest IT Trade and conference event in Alaska.
This year, Gonzalez Marketing purchased the rights to the show from the previous owners, and focused on marketing the event not only to the vendors, but to the IT community in Alaska. Based upon early numbers, his marketing plan was a key to the success.
"Our goal with IT Expo is to NOT have it be a single two day event that takes place once a year, but have it be a year long process with communications going out to the participants, provided by the conference presenters via a quarterly electronic newsletter. By providing year-around content, we keep them focused on the actual event, and they help guide us to provide the conference content relevant to their day-to-day business", reflected Steve Gonzalez, owner of Gonzalez Marketing. "AITP is of great value to IT Expo as they are the eyes and ears of the IT community in Alaska. Their diverse background allows my team an insight into the inter workings of the IT community not available to those who don't live it day in and day out"
IT Expo 2006 had over 1550 registered guests, interaction with more than 600 companies and organizations from Alaska and around the US, the highest attendance ever of our conference tracks, and 116 of our 200+ exhibitors and presenters traveled from 13 states and Alaska to participate. AITP and their partner, NUGA (Network Users Group of Alaska) coordinated and provided 88 educational sessions for the IT Expo.
AITP Anchorage has long supported the IT community in Alaska, and beyond. For many years, it ran its own trade event that directly competed against IT Expo. In the early 2000s, Anchorage lost a major leader and supporter of their event, InfoCom Alaska, J. Jack Jessee, who passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer. The leadership of the chapter decided it was best to team up with IT Expo versus trying to find a new leader and promoter.
As a reward for the hard effort put into this event, IT Expo, via Gonzalez Marketing, donated $11,362 to the chapter. Talk is already underway within the leadership of the chapter to start a second scholarship fund. Currently, the chapter hosts the Stephen D. Gregg Memorial Scholarship, but it is earmarked strictly for those students who attend the University of Alaska Anchorage IT related programs. The Chapter has been hosting and providing leadership for its other student chapter, Charter College as well.
