The fall AITP season is in full swing. Chapters have started up their new season of meetings. Regions are conducting their fall leadership workshops and conferences. The Information Systems Education Conference (ISECON) is right around the corner - November 2-5, 2006 in Dallas, Texas. New benefits are being developed for AITP members. The Association Board of Directors developed a new set of long range goals for the association and has begun detail planning for 2007.
New Member Benefits Recently members received an announcement about a new benefit -- the ability to attend the brand new IT FutureStructure conference in Columbus Ohio, at a whopping 40% discount. Even beyond that, AITP obtained a number of free passes to this conference that not only covered the entire conference registration but also an overnight hotel stay and meals. And AITP members from all over the country took advantage of this unique offer.
AITP is constantly working with vendors across the country to bring members benefits like this one. This conference happened to be in Ohio. But future conferences may be in a town near you. The vendor discount program includes conferences, other educational material, IT products and services, and general services such as printing, shipping, and insurance. Review the existing discount programs at the AITP web portal Vendor Affiliate page. Watch Information Executive and read the emails from AITP Headquarters to learn about new programs as they are announced.
In fact, AITP just penned an agreement with Adobe who will be putting on a series of workshops across the country over the next few months. AITP members will be able to attend the workshops at no charge. AITP will have the opportunity to speak to the workshop attendees, letting them know about our association. The visibility that AITP gains will help drive up membership for our chapters. Beyond that, Adobe will develop webinars for our members. And they will give AITP members discounts to Adobe products. The details on these webinars and discounts are still being worked out. Watch future Information Executive articles for more details.
Conferences are not the only new benefits. Over the past few months, AITP posted a number of new white papers exclusively for our members. AITP members will find these and many more high quality white papers in the Publications section of the AITP web portal. These free papers are another benefit of AITP membership.
Another new benefit is the availability of the a brand new AITP created white paper on "Managing the Information Security Process". This paper, which was developed by AITP's Research and Strategy Advisory Group, provides a comprehensive look at 10 FTC rulings, analyzing information and records management security risks. Based on this research, the paper recommends remedies that are applicable to all of us.
This is a must-read paper for all AITP members. Our companies look to us, as IT professionals, to help them understand what must be done to help protect our customer and proprietary information and to comply with government regulations. More information about this new paper is available in Information Executive.
In other news, the Membership Service area has been very busy. They developed high quality materials for our AITP booths which are used by chapters and regions throughout the country to gain visibility for and awareness about AITP. They completed a brand new set of membership brochures, flyers, and kits for chapters and regions to use to recruit new members. More information about these high quality promotional materials will soon be sent to chapter and region leaders.
AITP Vision of 2009 As part of its structured planning process, the Association Board of Directors recently approved an updated AITP Three Year Vision that will guide our efforts through the end of 2009. It documents our strategic initiatives, the member benefits we want to provide, and sets the overall goals for AITP. The purpose of this document is to help our Association leaders focus on what is most important as we develop our detailed plans for 2007.
We encourage all members to review the AITP 2006-2009 Vision document. Member comments to AITP Headquarters are invited and entirely welcome! You may find that you want to be part of the committees and task forces that are and will be formed to accomplish the goals in this document. If so, please let AITP Headquarters know. They will pass your name onto the appropriate person. You can be part of the excitement as AITP moves ever closer to its vision of being known as the Information Technology professional organization of choice for providing leadership opportunities, professional development and personal growth.
